The sangha is a community of people who are practicing together on the Buddhist path. At Austin Zen Center there are a variety of opportunities to participate in sangha activities. It takes many hearts and hands to maintain and grow a center where people can practice with each other on a daily basis.
Our sangha welcomes everyone from all backgrounds to come practice with us. If you are new to Zen, we offer Saturday morning introductory classes to acquaint you with zazen (Zen meditation). Our program is very broad in order to offer a range of possible times to sit so that we can accommodate as many schedules as possible. All of our teachers and students are happy to answer any questions. We encourage you to drop by and begin sitting with us. Please don't concern yourself with a lack of familiarity. Any so-called "mistakes" are a part of our practice. We learn in each moment.
Annual membership dues are the foundation on which Austin Zen Center can plan, build and support its wide range of programs. Please help to ensure the care and growth of this center by making a financial pledge for the year. Together we have the opportunity to realize the emptiness of the three wheels: giver, receiver and gift.
Members contribute recommeded minimum dues of $300.00 per calendar year ($25.00 per month). Students and those with limited income can become AZC members with recommeded dues per calendar year of $180.00 ($15.00 per month). Minimum membership refers to pledge amounts only and does not include charges for classes, sesshins and guest lectures. However, each member may attend one class free of charge.
AZC suggests a financial contribution per year equivalent to the amount a member makes in salary for one hour each week. For example, if your annual income is $20,000 then the annual AZC contribution would be $500.
To become a member, you can visit us at 3014 Washington Square and fill out our membership form or download a form here and drop it by the center. Please include your initial contribution when submitting your membership form. We thank you for your interest and your intention to support Buddhist practice. The ongoing operation of this center would be impossible without the generosity its members.
If you have any questions about membership, please email us or talk with the director at AZC (452-5777). |
